Dia duit! My name is Luke Carroll and I am from Ireland. I graduated with a Masters in Biomedical Genomics from University of Galway in 2023, where my research project focused on developing novel methods for cancer driver mutation discovery using genetic variant and gene expression data. My research interests centre around integrating bioinformatics, machine learning, and multi-omics analysis to tackle large-scale biological problems in novel ways. I am delighted to be joining the team of Dr. Peter Henneman to conduct my PhD as part of the MIRACLE Network at Amsterdam UMC.
My work will focus on developing workflows and machine learning models to identify inflammatory and immune targets that modulate development of atherosclerosis and cardiometabolic disease. The thing that excites me most about the project is the amount of multi-omics data available as part of the project; this will not only necessitate a lot of thinking outside the box, but creates an avenue for more integrated, interpretable, and informative approaches to tackle issues of immune and inflammatory response in CVD and CMD. I am honoured and thrilled to be part of the MIRACLE network, I think it's a great opportunity to develop both as a researcher and as an individual.
Outside of research, I enjoy playing music, films, cooking, weightlifting, and skiing, weather permitting.
