Carolina Tarabella - DC12

I am a dedicated researcher from Italy with a strong academic background in biotechnology and a keen interest in gene therapy. I earned My Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the University of Pisa (Italy) and my Master's degree in Medical Biotechnologies from the University of Padova (Italy), where my thesis focused on the development of a CRISPR-Cas9 system for therapeutic applications in HIV infection.

After graduation, I participated in the Erasmus+ traineeship program and worked for six months at the Rega Institute for Medical Research in Leuven, Belgium. There, I investigated the role of Epstein-Barr Virus infection in Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder and developed a passion for translational research.

As part of the MIRACLE Project, I am focusing on Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF), a complex cardiometabolic disease characterized by Left ventricular dysfunction, with pathological mechanisms yet to be clarified. By analyzing both bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing data from patients' samples, I aim to identify potential genetic therapeutic targets for HFpEF. Upon target identification, I will develop a gene therapy approach that will be tested in a mouse model in combination with inhalable nanoparticles for enhanced delivery efficiency to the myocardium.
